I am so happy to share that I’ve completed the “How to Build a Zero Waste City” training and earned my diploma from the Zero Waste Academy Europe! https://zerowasteeurope.eu/about/about-zero-waste/
This opportunity was offered to me by Ms. Solène Fargeix, Business Development Manager of the Mission Zero Academy (MiZA), to whom I deeply grateful for choosing me to become accredited and eligible to prepare municipalities in following the Zero Waste procedures.
The case studies I worked on had to do with Patras and Kimolos waste management, forming 9 assignments in total with my final on “How to build zero waste city”, with the Zero Waste Academy’s accreditation on Kimolos island.
From April 1st to June 1st, I deep-dived into an intensive, 41-academic-hour training program designed to transform how we think about, manage, and eliminate waste in our communities.
I completed a specialized training on Zero Waste Cities models across Europe and gained a deeper understanding of the recommended practices, building a strong network of collaborators.
This program wasn’t just about recycling more; it was a comprehensive blueprint for structural, systemic change. Through this academy, I have gained the specialized skills to:
• Design True Zero Waste Systems: Moving beyond basic waste management to implement the upper tiers of the Zero Waste Hierarchy (pre-management, prevention, and reduction).
• Leverage Data for Advocacy: Analyzing complex, waste-related data to build bulletproof arguments for local policy changes and sustainable infrastructure.
• Engage Key Stakeholders: Mapping out and mobilizing communities, businesses, and local governments to work together toward a shared vision.
• Champion the Zero Waste Certification System: Acting as a qualified advocate to help cities navigate the official basic-level Certification framework.
A huge thank you to the instructors and my fellow change-makers in the cohort.
Let’s build something cleaner, smarter, and truly sustainable!
