Ms. Sofia Chanioti presented at Session IV: “Young people at the forefront of global changes,” in the thematic section “Advancing innovation in education” (Session 4.1), her methodology and analyzed how innovation in education can bring about the change we need, transforming environmental education into the active development of key digital skills for Active Digital Citizen.

During the session, topics were explored regarding how we can harness the power of innovative digital tools to move beyond passive learning, promoting genuine community engagement, empowering young people to take direct action for our planet. This is the key to transforming environmental awareness into collective impact in the real world.
We believe that environmental facts and figures raise awareness, but it is stories that inspire action and change habits. Through the “Storytelling Kimolos No Plastic” initiative
• We documented and highlighted the efforts of the local community on Kimolos island.
• We created digital content that reached audiences across Greece and abroad, transforming Kimolos into an international symbol of environmental awareness.
• We strengthened the concept of active digital citizenship, giving community members themselves the tools to tell the story of their place and advocate for a cleaner future.
Τhis year was particularly significant with the presentation of the Council of Europe DCE Road Map, helping shape the future direction of Digital Citizenship Education across Europe. It was also encouraging to have diverse voices contributing to these discussions, including women leaders working at the intersection of technology, education, and inclusion, bringing perspectives rooted in both innovation and real-world practice.
