Kimolos honors its cultural heritage – “INTANGIBLE CULTURAL
HERITAGE of KIMOLOS – Tradition, Memory & Identity” Exhibition at the Espera Suites hotel. 

Cyclades Unified held an exhibition on the theme of “ΙNTAGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE of KIMOLOS Tradition, Memory & Identity” on 19/7/25. We would like to thank the deputy mayor, Mr. Panagiotis Sardis, who honored us with his presence, and everyone who joined us.

The first exhibition of the island’s cultural heritage was inaugurated with great success at the Espera Suites hotel in Kimolos, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kimolos, and the Mayor Mr. Konstantinos Ventouris. The exhibition presents only a small part of the valuable material collected by Ms. Agatha Rodi, educator, researcher, and author, through
five years of systematic recording and research, which continues. Ms. Rodi has collected audiovisual material, interviews, photographs, videos, and objects from everyday life on the island, bringing to light unknown aspects of Kimolos’ history and shedding light on professions and customs that are fading through the course of time.

Memory & Identity” marks the beginning of the creation of the Digital Museum “Kimolos & Polyaigos Cultural Heritage-Oral History & Digital Museum©.”

The design and curation of the exhibition at the hotel were undertaken by museologist Mrs. Iliana Zioga Museologist & Mr. Athanasias Athanasios, who managed to create an experiential exhibition for visitors, bringing them into contact with the tradition and history of the place. With specially designed constructions fully harmonized with the existing
aesthetics of the newly established Espera Suites hotel, the curators successfully “married” culture with tourism, creating three parts of lively narration and history.
The sections presented included: Kalamoplektiki (reed weaving), which is of particular historical importance to the island, created by Nikos Ventouris, bochorisdecoration.gr,  Wedding Koulouria, specially prepared for the exhibition by the Traditional Chrysanthi Mouratou bakery with the contribution of her husband Pavlos and Mrs. Margarita Mouratou, the Kimolian dishes, Mrs. Katerina Mastrantonaki actively participated,
presenting the section herself and informing the public about the tools she lent us especially for the exhibition, which belonged to her father and her husband, Mr. Ioannis.

The “Arboudektes,” a theme that sheds light on unknown aspects of traditional water collection, with material from uncle Giorgakis, the tireless volunteer from Kimolos, Mr. Giorgos Marinakis, who offered an 100 year old pinchers for the visitors to see, used in the daily life of the islanders. The exhibition is a step towards connecting visitors with the island’s intangible cultural heritage, inspired by the dynamic collaboration between local research, museology, and tourism hospitality.
