Storytelling Kimolos – NO PLASTIC in Kimolos!
Educational experiential learning in the heart of Kimolos at Sotira Square. The simultaneous teaching method fostering environmental stewardship both for students and adults with intergenerational
connection and learning, gave us great joy. We would like to thank the Deputy Mayor Ms. Eli Vambakari of the Municipality of Kimolos, who contributed to a particularly creative day at our workshop “BLUE TRACES” arranging the transport of equipment, chairs, and tables, dedicating time from her personal work, the Mayor Mr. Konstantinos Ventouris, and our beloved Deputy Mayor Mr. Panagiotis Sardis for his support and involvement. The students acquired the skills they need to understand the value of proper plastic management and the importance of sustainable management, to reduce plastic in their daily lives and in the sea, and to promote the recycling process. The Cyclades Unified team undertook the design and implementation of the educational core of the Kimolos Storytelling Workshop – NO PLASTIC in Kimolos, in collaboration with the Kimolos Volunteer Group Kimolistes Amke. With the original design, the scientific and artistic supervision and implementation by Ms. Iliana Zioga Museologist, and Mr. Athanasias Athanasios, young and old alike had the opportunity to learn about the art of cyanotype, creating unique paintings.

Using the casting method and recycled materials, they made original creations, such as pencil cases and card holders, from plastic bottles, spoons, caps, and straws. The children actively participated in all stages of the process, from mixing to molding the materials into molds. Ms. Agatha Rodi held an informational discussion on plastic and its impact on our lives. The spontaneous discussions and exchange of knowledge reinforced the various narrative structures, helping to develop the coherence and macro- structure of the Narrative, which was enriched by the ideas and references of the adults, creating a unique group. The training program is funded by the Cyclades Preservation Fund -CPF, and it is organized by Cyclades Unified, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kimolos, Kimolistes- Kimolos Volunteer Group, with the support of Kimolos Psathaki Stylish Accommodation and Travel House Rapti from Patras.

The “Blue Traces” workshop is a creative dialogue between art and environmental awareness, using the old photographic technique of cyanotype. Focusing on plastic pollution and ecological awareness, participants are invited to imprint real waste on photosensitive paper, creating striking blue “shadows” with powerful symbolism. Inspired by the characteristic blue of the sea and cyanotype, the workshop explores the contrast between the beauty of nature and the pollution caused by plastics, which overwhelm our environment on a daily basis. Through this process, the trash is transformed into visual imprints that bear witness to human intervention. We are delighted to contribute to informing and raising awareness among visitors and Kimolian residents about the important issue of plastic.
