The civil society organization Cyclades Unified joined the European program RESILIAGE (HORIZON EUROPE) https://resiliage.eu/ as a CORE Associated Lab, for two years, the Cultural Heritage of the island of Kimolos, together with 9 other European organizations from the following countries: Austria, Slovenia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain.

Last week on 12/3/2025, Cyclades Unified presented the Medieval Castle of Kimolos, the churches of the Castle and the landscaping of the space by the Kimolosites – Volunteer Group of Kimolos for the screenings of the open-air cinema, to the participating organizations and to the head of Core Associated Labs, PhD candidate at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Ms. Farzaneh Allakbari & the head of CoreDnet tool, Ms. Sofia Darbesio, PhD candidate at the Polytechnic University of Turin, (field: Urban and Regional Development).

RESILIAGE(HORIZON EUROPE) will focus on promoting collective active memory as a cohesive element of the identity of communities, contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage. It is the answer to the problem of crises and disasters that affect the lives, livelihoods and environment of European citizens in unpredictable and unprecedented ways.

Cyclades Unified in collaboration with the Municipality of Kimolos, Konstantinos Ventouris and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades aims to highlight and restore the Medieval Castle of Kimolos and the surrounding area, to highlight the church and cell of the Miraculous Protectress of Kimolos Saint Methodius, which is served by the 93-year-old (deaconess) Mrs. Katerina Marinaki, as well as the church “The Birth of Christ” (1592).

These churches are an important part of the historical significance of the Medieval Castle (14th-16th century) and the Cultural Heritage of Kimolos.

 

By carrying out actions and collaborating with stakeholders, our goal is to promote the Medieval Castle in Europe, along with the simultaneous processes for its preservation. A series of actions have already been prepared in collaboration with the Municipality of Kimolos and the Cyclades Archaeology Directorate, starting with the recording of the invaluable religious reference for the island of Kimolos and the visitors to the churches inside the Castle.

An equally important goal for Cyclades Unified is to inform and take action regarding the weather phenomena and climate change that affect the surrounding area of ​​the Medieval Castle. Through the exchange of practices and their adoption, we aim to strengthen the resilience of the local community of Kimolos and to show interest in the preservation of the Cultural Heritage from a Historical and Religious perspective.
